It is one of the most rewarding and fun industries, but the work is hard and the hours are long, even for the most seasoned of veterans. This week, I wanted to raise a glass to Bret Oliverio, who is finding success with a fun and funky hot dog restaurant in two college towns in North Carolina. Brace yourself for the amazing journey with Sup Dogs. After suffering the loss of his brother, the Founder of Sup Dogs Restaurants, Bret left his job in sports radio to take up his brother’s vision for a laid back restaurant with good food, good drinks, and a lively atmosphere. I can’t wait for you to hear about Bret’s passion for his employees, dedication to learning the restaurant business, and the fun atmosphere he created as a result of hard work. Don’t be surprised if you are craving a hot dog or longing for your college days afterward! Bret's Bio:  After graduating from James Madison University in 2003, Bret Oliverio worked for almost 9 years as an Executive Producer and Asst. Program Director for CBS Radio in Washington, DC. Bret’s brother, Derek, started Sup Dogs Restaurant, located in Greenville, NC, in 2008. Derek unexpectedly passed away in a house fire in late 2011. Shortly thereafter, Bret left his career in radio to take over Derek’s business in hopes of continuing the Sup Dogs dream. Bret jumped into the restaurant business with zero experience. He has been the Owner/Operator of Sup Dogs Restaurant since February 2012. In June 2014, Sup Dogs opened their second location in Chapel Hill, NC. “I’ve learned that this job is about doing what is best for the business, and not necessarily what makes me happy.” ~ Bret Oliverio Also in this week’s episode: Bret’s moving journey towards developing Sup Dogs Restaurant. A focus on giving the college experience while serving awesome food. Bret healed from his brother’s loss by jumping into the restaurant business. How the people in our lives really transform the journey to success. Bret ran a restaurant with no experience! His story is incredible. Instilling business practices while still respecting his brother’s memory. Creating a work culture that is magnetic. We play a game of Restaurant Mad Libs!
